If your vehicle has been impounded and you are unable to physically go pay and get the vehicle released, there is a sure-fire way to get it out of the impound yard. As always, whomever you choose to represent you for this task, must have legal authority. The best way to provide this authority is through a Limited Power of Attorney (POA). A Power of Attorney Document can be digital or paper, however, the Impound Yard may dictate which one is required.
Digital POA’s are very fast and can be done remotely for a modest fee. Paper POA’s require overnight shipping (both ways) and potentially require a notarization which adds expense. Either way, a POA provides the path for someone designated “by the owner of the vehicle” to represent them in getting the vehicle released. It does require positive proof of ownership including:
- Driver’s License
- Secondary picture form of ID / Government ID / SS Card
- Vehicle Registration
- Vehicle Title
Payment methods for storage & release charges typically includes:
- Debit Card
- Credit Card
- Cash
Generally, checks are not accepted and in certain municipalities, the storage yard can demand cash payment. If you don’t have cash, the car will stay in impound and the storage bill grows buy the day – there is no maximum or stoppage date. So, what can you do? OutPOUND can help!
